Starter training courses with the Fylde Coasters
Each year the Fylde Coaster's run starter course for dogs and handlers that have not done any Flyball before. There are also opportunities to progress further.
The courses are being run throughout the year on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday evening of the month at Midgeland Road Riding School, Midgeland Road, Blackpool, FY4 5EE. Each course runs for 4 weeks and needs to be booked in advance. How far you and your dog progress depends very much on both the dog and the owner, but the aim is for you and your dog to learn the basics of Flyball in a safe and fun way, with lots of advice and encouragement from the trainers. Moreover, we love to see most breeds of dog and every dog is different and some pick it up quickly while others need a little more encouragement. The criteria for coming is that your dog is friendly, comes back to you when called and likes balls.
Throughout the course we will teach your dog how to firstly go over the jumps which are fulled netted in, see above picture and then to go away from you to fetch a ball. Once they have mastered this we will then train them to retrieve the ball from a spring-loaded box. When your dog is reliably doing all of that we will then take away the netting jump by jump until completely open. This is when your dog could be ready for sanctioned racing.
